Innovation Learning Programme: activating innovation in times of uncertainty
In a context defined by uncertainty, complexity, and constant decision-making, many organizations need to build innovation capabilities that go beyond tools.
At Opinno, we worked with EDP to redesign its global learning program so it would become more accessible, more inspiring, and more connected to the day-to-day reality of its teams. Together, we designed a learning experience centered on people, mindset, and creativity as key levers for building a cross-functional culture of innovation.
The challenge
EDP, one of the leading international energy groups, had long invested in innovation learning through its Innovation Learning Experience program.
The objective was not simply to train teams in methodologies, but to drive real and sustainable cultural change. The company needed a more experiential learning proposal, connected to the real challenges faced by its teams and aligned with its global human skills framework.
How we worked
We brought our experience in Human-Centered Design and experiential learning, working collaboratively with the Learning team and managers from different departments.
Together, we created workshops designed to strengthen lateral thinking, resilience, and the ability to make strategic decisions in uncertain contexts, aligning the learning narrative with the company’s innovation process.
We designed an integrated journey that combined online talks, in-person workshops, and a post-training challenge, conceived as a coherent and complementary experience.
One of the most distinctive elements of the program was the use of storytelling as a common thread. The online talks, Smart Decisions in Times of Uncertainty, delivered in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, used the BANI jungle metaphor to help participants reflect on how to make decisions in complex scenarios.
The in-person workshops, Think Differently to Boost Creativity and Strategic Decision-Making in Uncertainty, were designed as hands-on experiences, far from traditional theoretical formats.
“It was a highly distinctive program, with current topics aligned with the real challenges EDP faces. Trying new learning formats generated strong engagement and clear practical value for participants.”
Impact
- 200+ participants in online talks
- 32 participants in in-person workshops
- Average rating between 4 and 4.5 out of 5
- 5 participating countries: Portugal, Spain, Brazil, Singapore, and the United States
- 3 working languages: Spanish, English, and Portuguese
The project reinforced our belief that experiential learning, creative design, and a people-centered approach can turn training into a real lever for cultural transformation.
