The Tomillo Foundation was founded in 1984, with the aim of contributing to social development and improving people’s livelihood. The organization works with children and young people, along with their families and communities, providing them with tools that enable them to take responsibility for their own lives and environment. The aim is to improve their living conditions through education and employment so that they can reach their full potential and play an active and responsible role in civil society.

The work is carried out by a team of mostly teachers and psychologists, who create the different programs aimed at children, teenagers, and families, as well as training and orientation.

“As part of Opinno.org’s activity, the Tomillo Foundation was one of three organizations chosen to carry out a monographic workshop on the challenges of digitalization. While part of the organization’s mission is ongoing training, the aim was to ensure that this activity could be carried out entirely digitally,” says Sara Alonso, Project Manager at Opinno.” The workshop’s content was drafted jointly, through prior contact and questionnaires completed by different profiles within the foundation, who provided many of the ideas for its execution.

As a result of this workshop, a road map or path towards digitalization was laid out, which runs through different stages, starting with competencies or the need to digitally empower all users of the foundation’s programs. This includes the design of a basic digital training course with a framework and system for evaluating their digital competencies as well as holding a competition that empowers them digitally. The next step is to ensure the integrity and quality of the hybrid socio-educational interventions by analyzing the online and offline experience of the users and optimizing a model for the transfer of digital devices together with the definition of a decalogue of good practices in online training.

As a leading foundation in their field of activity, the importance of becoming a benchmark in digitalization for other organizations was also stressed, by exploring forums and events in which to participate, sharing best practices and establishing a person in charge of managing the organization’s ecosystem.

Working efficiently is also key to the path towards digitalization, optimizing internal processes, integrating the different systems (Gepeto, CRM, RP, etc.) and drawing up a decalogue of best practices of the hybrid work model together with a welcome pack with common tools and processes.

Digital transformation is not possible without a motivated, digitally competent, and collaborative team, so once the organization’s expertise has been mapped, it will be necessary to continue with internal training, design a knowledge management tool such as a video portal and outline a system for sharing good digital practices within the organization.

Finally, it is a matter of digitally accompanying the different stakeholders (current and alumni) of the Tomilleros community, defining a value proposition, a unified platform/channel, validating the solution for key stakeholders of the community and implementing the solution for all of them.

At Opinno we are proud to have been able to collaborate with the Tomillo Foundation in defining a specific road map towards digitalization that will help improve the living conditions of many children and young people along with their families and communities.
