The DTx Consortium is Born with the Goal of Driving the Adoption of Digital Therapies in Spain

Members of the DTx Consortium meet to promote the adoption of digital therapies in Spain

The CDTx is a strategic alliance of leading organizations from various sectors (pharmaceutical companies, technology companies, telecommunications companies, startups, and other entities), whose objective is to advance the regulation of digital therapies and define a sustainable financing model that guarantees their access to the Spanish market of healthcare products.

Digital therapies (DTx) are clinically evaluated software used to prevent, manage, and/or treat a wide spectrum of diseases and disorders. The use of a digital therapy must guarantee a clinical benefit for the patient, and be subject to evidence standards and regulatory oversight.

Digital treatments have already demonstrated their potential to create a positive impact in multiple therapeutic areas such as mental health, chronic diseases, cardiovascular, metabolic pathologies, and rare diseases, among many others.

"Digitalization has revolutionized many sectors in past years, and digital therapies could signify the arrival of this revolution in the healthcare field, which would improve the level of care, access to treatments, and the overall quality of the system." declares Xavier Contijoch, one of the spokespersons for the DTx Consortium and director of Opinno Healthcare.

While European countries like Germany, the United Kingdom, France, and Belgium have already begun to develop evaluation and reimbursement models to facilitate the access and implementation of various digital solutions in their healthcare systems, in Spain the process is still in its initial stage. For example, in Germany, there are currently more than 30 therapies reimbursed by the healthcare system, and in 2022, healthcare professionals made approximately a total of 50,000 prescriptions for this type of therapy.

The CDTx aims to facilitate the development of a regulatory framework that integrates learnings from other countries and thus promote the adoption of digital therapies based on clinical evidence through the dissemination and provision of relevant information for the different stakeholders in the ecosystem (Administration, patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals, etc.).

To carry out a project of such magnitude and for digital therapies to become a reality in patients' lives, it is necessary to combine the knowledge and experience contributed by the different agents of the ecosystem, from both the public and private sectors. With this multisectoral approach, the CDTx has been constituted, already integrating some of the main actors in the health sector of our country.

It is possible to access the CDTx website or its social media to learn more about the initiative and obtain more information about digital therapies.
