The innovation thesis: the first strategic asset of a corporate innovation Hub
Before hiring talent, before talking to a single startup, a company needs to precisely define where it will innovate — and with what criteria it will make those decisions.
Six of the ten largest companies in the S&P 500 have something in common that rarely appears in analyses of corporate innovation: all were funded by venture capital in their early stages. All operated under a precise portfolio logic — out of twenty bets, they expect only one to generate a spectacular return — and yet, they kept betting. That's not imprudence. It's mathematics. And it requires, before anything else, a thesis to guide what those bets should be.

It defines where the company plays, how it distributes its resources, and with what parameters it evaluates whether an initiative deserves to advance to the next stage.

It is the most strategic and at the same time most operational document the Hub will produce: the one that allows portfolio decisions to be made consistently, regardless of who is in the room or which initiative generates the most enthusiasm at a given moment.
