The Osa coop is a cooperative and participatory supermarket in which its members are consumers, co-owners and participants. They are consumers as only members of the cooperative can access the supermarket and buy whatever they want whenever they want. Co-owners because it belongs exclusively to the members of the cooperative. They are the ones who vote on important decisions in the General Assemblies, to help improve the cooperative. And finally, but equally important, they are participants, they dedicate 3 hours every 4 weeks to do the supermarket work such as replenishment, order reception, cleaning, box, administration, etc.
The OSA cooperative is a non-profit organization. Which means that its main purpose is not to achieve an economic benefit, but social welfare. It is also a direct savings cooperative, which means that the economic benefit it generates from its sales is not distributed among its members, but focuses on reinvesting the benefit in making products more affordable. In this way, the better the activity management, the better the conditions and options that your members will have when making the purchase.
The members of the Opinno team were very interested in the type of products they can find in this supermarket. Pauline answered all her questions about product availability by explaining that OSA offers self-service and assisted sales for a full range of food, hygiene, cosmetics and cleaning products, which will cover all the basic and complementary needs of a food and non-food shopping basket at affordable prices. Products usually vary by season, so your members can learn to eat seasonally and enjoy different foods each month. They also offer specific products for vegetarians, vegans, gluten-free, lactose-free, and a variety in bulk.
A very important element for these supermarkets comes when choosing the products they offer, as they have a strict purchasing policy, based on 6 criteria of equal value: environmental impact, proximity, ethical production, price, and satisfaction of the needs of our community of cooperative members.
