This annual event is a unique opportunity to set eyes on the latest innovations in the mobile industry, an industry which is developing exponentially and now reaches over 5 billion subscribers in the world. It is the mobile industry which is driving innovation and revolutionizing industry in all sectors. The Mobile World Congress, which began in 2015, serves as an excellent platform for business opportunities and networking. But this year it included keynotes and discussions in its conference talks and presentations which kept the industry´s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals in sight throughout the week. These goals include equality, environmental and sustainable development objectives affecting both the developed and the developing world.
Opinno was in attendance this year. Our role was to organize two tours of the Congress for an energy company. We were asked to design a specific tour for a team of directors in marketing for them to become acquainted with the most inspirational products at the cutting edge of the mobile industry and to see how these miracles of technology might contribute to innovation at their company.
There was an array of products catering to the mind-bending tendencies in both emerging and established markets. Fifth Generation Wireless systems, or 5G for short, is the latest in mobile networks and should be widely available by 2020, but is already being picked up by leading companies in the sector such as Samsung, Nokia and Huawei. The Internet of Things, a network of physical devices, vehicles, home appliances and other items embedded with electronics and software, which allow them to connect and exchange data is another tendency. Also represented was Smart Homes and Machine Learning, a branch of computer science which gives computer systems the ability to learn with data was available at the congress in the hands of the world’s first manufacturers.
The team from the energy company also visited the stands of industry leaders such as Samsung, IBM, Orange, Telefonica, Huawei and Ericsson where experts illustrated the kinds of technological innovation which will induce and sustain changes in companies in the energy sector. The company directors in marketing were able to consult experts on how these technological advances might inspire and redefine ways of doing business in their company context. Opinno were on hand to guide directors through the cutting-edge collective of technology at the Congress, which only looks set to expand still more. We look forward to next year’s efforts.
