Vehicle fleet management has undergone a remarkable revolution in recent years thanks to the use of fleet management software. These are platforms through which companies of various sizes that use fleets of trucks, buses, cabs and even motorcycles can record information about their vehicles in real time.

In this context, a leading Mexican company with twenty years of market experience and more than 170,000 vehicles under its supervision contacted Opinno to improve the user experience of its platform. Traditionally, the company has focused on vehicle recovery through GPS tracking, although its goal is to expand its operations to complete fleet management. The aim is to facilitate, track and supervise the routes and tasks to be carried out in real time, following up on possible mechanical problems, and even monitoring driver performance, among other information that helps to reduce costs and improve productivity.

"When the company contacted Opinno, they already had a fleet management platform, but they were quite dissatisfied with how difficult the experience of using and navigating it was," says Francisco Javier Martín Herrera, Project Manager at Opinno Madrid. "It was clear to them that they needed to make substantial improvements to the user experience so as to stop the growing entry of competitors into the Mexican market.

In this case, the goal was to facilitate a transition from a vehicle recovery hardware installation company to a software management company, creating a user-friendly platform that would meet the needs of its customers and adopting Agile as a company philosophy to gain a competitive edge.

This collaboration is based on the company’s knowledge of its business, fleet management and the necessary logistics, with the aim of translating it into an interface whose differential value involves efficient and intuitive usability.

The work has been completed in record time, in just eight months, and has involved a complete design of the user experience.

To create an optimal, scalable and reusable design that responds to these needs, it is necessary to understand the behavior and habits of users in detail. The aim is to achieve better reaction times and more efficient problem identification, and to contextualize them through information and data visualization, thereby facilitating decision making. For this reason, research was key from the start of the work.

A complete design system with centralized management like the one we have developed for this project has many advantages. Its versatility in entering new markets, launching new brands, making changes to graphics, tables and colors, adapting to customers of different sizes and many other user-friendly options are key to standing out from the competition.

In this sense, the new interface also allows real-time access to information such as satellite tracking, the driving style of each vehicle, its maintenance and pending procedures or variances in operating costs, among other key parameters when it comes to optimizing resources and customer service.
